Thwarted Chicago Marathoners Have Found Fresh Venues For Their 26.2-Mile Dreams
The horrendous heat and humidity on October 7 in Chicago caused many runners to drop out, some to be pulled off the course when officials shut down the course, and some to decide not to start the race at all. Christine Mortensen was forced to stop after 16 miles in Chicago, her first marathon, but will assuage the disappointment by running in Indianapolis. Tom Smithburg states searched for other Midwest marathons after dropping out in Chicago "and luckily I found one in Ashland, Wisconsin this past Saturday." Others who didn't finish in Chicago have already run in Denver, while some will head to Detroit and Des Moines this weekend.
